,'Arbeit macht frei' is a German phrase that can be translated as 'work liberates' or 'work sets you free'.

The slogan is well-known for being placed at the entrances to a number of Nazi concentration camps, including most famously Auschwitz, where it was made by prisoners with metalwork skills and erected by order of the Nazis in June 1940.

This specific entrance, is the Arbeit Macht Frei gate at the Sachsenhausen former Nazi concentration camp, in in Oranienburg, Germany, 1 hour outside Berlin.

This camp was used primarily for political prisoners from 1936 to the end of the Third Reich in May, 1945.
